We can’t escape it and there is nothing we can do to get away from it. No matter what, this will always catch up to us.
Although we can’t run away, we can deal with it better. We can create coping mechanisms and we can do things to help alleviate it as much as possible.
I am talking about stress. There isn’t anyone that doesn’t have some type of stress in their life to deal with.
We get stressed because we feel as if we are losing control.
So what can we do to prevent stress from having an effect on us?
After all, stress causes us to have medical problems, relationship issues, and it just flat out ruins the day!
Although we cannot eliminate stress, we can get better at stress management. So let’s talk about how we can do that!
Here are three very simple things we can do to deal with and manage stress better, to continue with a productive day, a productive life, and not let stress have as much of an effect on our mood or health.
- Breathe. It’s so simple, right! Breathe in for four counts and then out for four counts. Do this 10 Times. Be sure to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Breathe into your belly, not your chest. If your chest or shoulder’s lift, you are doing it incorrectly.
- Take a walk. This will remove you from whatever space you were in, when the stress occurred – home, office, cubicle, wherever. It will also help to re-energize you and oxygenate your body as well. Additionally, by putting yourself in a different space you will stimulate creative energy in your mind, which aids in the discovery of a solution.
- After you’ve followed the first two steps, and only after that, take out a pen and paper to write down what the stressor is. Then, write down the long-term implications the stressor. Finally, write down possible solutions to the stressor.
You will find that by following these three simple steps in order, you will put things in their proper perspective and be better able to deal with whatever issue has arisen.
