I CHANGED THESE 3 THINGS AND BECAME MORE PRODUCTIVE

An airplane uses the most energy when it takes off. There are a lot of elements working against it until it gets into momentum. But even then it can encounter bad weather, turbulence, or even mechanical problems while in flight. To withstand these elements and to be certain it reaches every destination, airplanes are on a strict routine maintenance schedule so they will always be fit for flight.

When you are pushing toward a goal, it takes a lot of energy, focus, determination, will power, effort, and most of all STAMINA.

Working towards you goals can be draining in many ways. Time away from family, recreation, rest, and the world around you can give you feelings of isolation and even helplessness. You may even begin to question your efforts. But when we see the huge mountain that stands in front of us that we must get over to accomplish our goal, we feel as if we need to work tirelessly to get there. The problem is that we do get tired. “Tirelessly” doesn’t exist. As humans, we get tired. Physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion are very real things that stand in the way of our goals. If we work “tirelessly,” it will eventually become counter productive.

Here are a few ways I have found that help me to keep from exhausting myself, so that I can continue to be productive.

  1. When a runner is running a race, the only thing he or she does is race. They don’t stop in the middle to run someone else’s race. They can only run theirs. In the same way, when you are working toward a goal, don’t simultaneously work on someone else’s goal too. You cannot effectively help them and you at the same time.
  2. Have good time habits. Pick a strict time to wake up and go to bed. Block out your time and remove all interruptions (i.e. email, Facebook, mobile phone, etc). Guard that block of time. View it as if you were a surgeon performing open heart surgery. You cannot stop in the middle of what you are doing to complete a different task.
  3. Schedule time to recharge at least once if not twice during the day. Even if it’s just 15-30 minutes. Going for a brisk walk, or getting in some exercise does wonders for your mindset and outlook. If your batteries are running low, you are likely not nearly as productive as you could or should be. Recharging will give you the lift you need to have better production in the long run.

Be sure to take care of yourself first or you won’t be able to take care of others. This week, set aside some time for yourself so you can recharge and watch your productivity improve. Make a habit of giving back to yourself so you will be able to give more freely to others. Keep yourself on a strict maintenance schedule, so you will ALWAYS be fit for flight.
