5 THINGS FOR YOUR SUCCESS BUCKET LIST
Like most people, when I was a child (some people think I still am), I thought I knew everything. I had all the answers and a response for anything. It was a talent. Some (me) called it a gift. My quick wit got me a lot of attention. Sarcastic comments are usually met with laughter. The attention was. and still is intoxicating. However like any adult, with the passage of time you realize that unless you get paid to make people laugh (I wasn’t), then you had better implement different tactics if you want to achieve massive results with you personal goals, plans, dreams, etc. With that in mind here are some of the important lessons I have learned over the years which I believe have had an enormous impact (positive and negative) on my success, so far. I stress, so far because:
1. We are a constant work in progress. Whatever you perceive as the penultimate success, you will never get there. You can always do better, learn more, help more people, believe more, be kinder, understand more, gain more insight, etc.
2. Be a self-starter. This may seem evident to most, but how many people sit and wait for success to find them. We play the lottery, looking for the veritable “needle the haystack” or magic bullet. But the cold reality is success takes hard work. If you aren’t willing to put in the work on a consistent basis over a long period of time, stop reading now. Go back to Facebook and update your status to “I quit.”
3. Do what you love. Find that one thing that ignites your passion and pursue it with every once of energy and enthusiasm you have. Which brings me to the next thing…
4. Collaborate with other like-minded people. Many people ignore this and make themselves an Island. “A rising tide lifts all ships.” I don’t know who first said that, but I do know it’s true. If you don’t have anyone to work with, get out there and promote yourself and they will come to you.
5. Give yourself a break. Your path won’t be perfect. Understand and accept that even the most successful people have failed. Some have failed historically. Be assured that you are in good company. It will be a roller coaster ride with exhilarating highs and gut wrenching lows. But in the end the triumphs will be worth the tribulations.
The main thing is to get started. Don’t wait until tomorrow, because you and I both know that tomorrow never comes. Believe in yourself. Decide to move forward. Act on your dreams each and every day. You’re worth it and so are your dreams.
